DIY: Christmas Bow as seen on Pinterest (part 1)

Oeh het is bijna kerst. Een van de leukste en mooiste tijden van het jaar vind ik. Om je alvast een handje te helpen heb ik deze maand 3 do-it-yourselfs in elkaar gezet. Alle 3 zijn het een extraatje voor je kerstcadeau. Iedereen wilt dat zijn of haar cadeau het mooist eruit ziet. En net zoals vele anderen, struin ook ik heel internet en Pinterest af voor inspiratie. Dus, pak je spullen bij elkaar en ga aan de slag!

Ooh it’s almost Christmas. One of the nicest and most beautiful times of the year I think. To help you a hand, I’ve put together three diy’s for this month. All three are a nice touch for your Christmas gift. Everyone wants his or her gift to be the most beautiful one. And like many others, I also spend a lot of time on the internet and Pinterest in search for inspiration. So, grab your stuff together and get going!

Wat heb je nodig?/What do you need?
– een oud tijdschrift/an old magazine
– een schaar/scissors
– dubbelzijdig plakband/double-sided tape 
– lineaal/ruler

Tip: gebruik de december-editie van het tijdschrift van Douglas of ICI Paris. Daar staan vaak mooie kerstadvertenties in die je goed kunt gebruiken.
Tip: use a holiday-edition of a magazine. There are often nice advertisements of Christmasgifts in it. 

Voor één strik heb je één pagina uit je tijdschrift nodig. Ik heb hiervoor een advertentie van Chanel gebruikt. Je gaat je pagina in 9 stroken knippen. Let op: alle zijn 2 cm breed.
Knip 3 stroken van 28 cm lang.
Knip 3 stroken van 25 cm lang.
Knip 2 stroken van 22 cm lang.
Knip 1 strook van 9 cm lang.

One page of a magazine makes one bow. I’ve used a Chanel advertisement for my bow. First you need to cut your page into 9 strips. Each of the strips are 3/4 of an inch thick.
Cut 3 strips of 11 inches in height.
Cut 3 strips of 10 inches in height.
Cut 2 strips of 9 inches in height.
Cut 1 strip of 3 1/2 inches in height.

Nu ga je elke strook voorzichtig omvouwen tot een deel van de strik. Draai eerst de ene uiteinde naar het midden van de strook. Maak deze vast met een klein stukje plakband. Draai nu de andere uiteinde naar het midden en plak ook deze vast met een klein stukje plakband. Ga zo door tot je alle stroken hebt omgetoverd tot halve strikjes. Van het kleinste stukje maak je een ring.

You now have to carefully fold each strip to a simple bow. Twist one end of the strip and place it in the middle. Secure it with a small piece of tape. Now take the other end, twist it, and secure it in the middle. Repeat this process until you’ve finished the strips. From the smallest piece you make a ring.

Nu ga je de strik echt maken. Pak de drie grootste stroken. Plak een klein stukje dubbelzijdig tape in het midden van de eerste strik. Plak daar nu de tweede op. En stapel zo door. Je plak als laatste de ring in het midden. En klaar is je strik!

Now it’s time to actually assemble the bow. Take the three largest bows. Place a piece of double-sided tape in the middle and stack the other bow on it. Now keep on sticking and layering. You’ll finish with the ring, stick it in the middle of your bow. And you’re finished!
